How to Properly Set Up Your Binoculars for Crystal-Clear Viewing
Many people, including hunters, birders, and those who simply want a closer view, often struggle with using binoculars. They lift them to their eyes, see two overlapping circles, feel frustrated, and eventually give up. Does this sound familiar? You’re not alone.
At TRACT, we hear this all the time. The good news? With just a few simple adjustments, you can unlock the full potential of your binoculars and enjoy tack-sharp images every time.
Whether you’re using our TORIC high-performance binoculars or another model, this guide will walk you through the proper setup to match your face structure and eye strength.
Why Setup Matters
Binoculars are precision instruments. If they’re not adjusted to your unique facial structure and vision, you’ll never get the full field of view or a single, clear image.
That’s why we’ve engineered our TORIC binoculars with multi-position eyecups, precise diopter controls, and a rugged magnesium alloy chassis to help you dial in the perfect fit and keep it locked in.

Step-by-Step Guide to Binocular Setup | Set Up Your Binoculars
Follow these steps to get the most out of your binoculars:
1. Start with the Diopter at Zero
- Locate the diopter adjustment ring (usually on the right barrel).
- Lift to unlock the diopter adjustment ring
- Set it to the center mark—between the plus (+) and minus (–) signs.

2. Adjust the Eyecups
- If you wear glasses: twist the eyecups all the way down.
- If you don’t wear glasses: start with the eyecups fully extended.
- Tip: Our TORIC binoculars feature multi-position eyecups. If you’re not getting the full field of view, try adjusting them up or down one click.

3. Set the Hinge Width
- Hold the binoculars with both hands and move the barrels inward or outward.
- Bring them up to your eyes and adjust until you see one clear circle—not two overlapping images.

4. Focus Each Eye Individually
- Pick a detailed object 20–30 yards away (e.g., a brick wall or fence post).
- Keep both eyes open.
- Cover the right barrel with your hand.
- Use the center focus wheel to sharpen the image with your left eye.
- Now cover the left barrel.
- Use the diopter ring to focus the image with your right eye.
5. Lock It In
- Once both eyes are focused, you’ll only need to use the center focus wheel going forward.
- Your binoculars are now customized to your vision.
